Book Review Philosophy
Jan G. Michel (ed.), Making Scientific Discoveries. Interdisciplinary Reflections
Abstract
The multidisciplinary anthology deals with the issue of scientific discoveries, routinely neglected by many philosophers of science. The contributions in the book show that such a neglect is regrettable. However, I criticize the editor's "official" arguments as to why the phenomenon of scientific discoveries needs to take centre place in the philosophy of science. I also raise new objections to an institutional theory of scientific discoveries, favoured by Michel and other authors.
